Sri Lanka is a small
island in Asian continent covering 65610 sqkm land area.14%
out of this land area is completely comprised of flora and
fauna with an outstanding bio diversity. This includes wild
elephants, leopards, bears birds, rare reptiles, water
buffaloes, crocodiles etc. The world famous rain forest
Sinharaja which is also a world heritage takes an important
place under this.
Out of the population of 20 million nearly 74% are believing
Buddism which is also the state religion. Hiduism,
Christianity, Islam religions are also represented by this
population. The cities such as Anuradhapura Polonnaruwa and
Kandy take a prominent place historically and culturally
valued cities with ancient ruins.
When we take the special topographic features of Sri Lanka
in to consideration, the hill country or the central
highlands which is of an elevation of 2534m above the sea
level has covered ¼ of Sri Lanka’s land area, also important
in world famous tea cultivation. The heavenly waterfalls
which have caught the eyes of whole world enhance the
natural beauty of these highlands unabatedly.
Gold and fine sanded beaches such as Benthota, Hikkaduwa,
Nilaweli, Unawatuna, Galle, Pasikuda are the most highly
admired and eye caught coastal features which have made Sri
Lanka gain a prominent place in tourist industry.
